THE MUSE


were nymphs of springs and water Daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne. The supreme god was joined for nine nights with the goddess daughter of Uranus and Gaia. At the end of gestation gave birth to the goddess (in Pieria at the foot of Olympus) nine children: the Muses who presided over the beautiful art of music. They were: the inspiring story

The Muses were invoked by the poets as inspiration for their songs.
